Dear Members of the International Academy of Human Reproduction,

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Professor John Sciarra, a distinguished colleague, an exceptional leader, and a dear friend to many of us within the Academy.

Professor Sciarra was an integral part of the International Academy of Human Reproduction, where he served as Vice President with dedication and vision. His tireless commitment to advancing the field of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive health has left an indelible mark on our community and beyond.
We have lost not only an extraordinary professional, but also a man of great humanity, wisdom, and kindness. His contributions have shaped the course of women’s health globally, and his presence at our meetings and activities was always a source of inspiration.

To honor his memory, I am pleased to share with you the heartfelt tribute written by Professor Joseph Schenker, which is available here. Professor Schenker, who worked closely with John for many years, beautifully expresses the profound impact John had on our field and on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

On behalf of the International Academy of Human Reproduction, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

We all deeply mourn the loss of Professor Sciarra, yet his legacy will continue to guide us as we uphold the values and vision he so passionately embraced.

I would also like to remember him with the photo he shared with me in 2017, together with his beloved children, and, together with the entire Academy, I wish to express our deepest closeness as we share in their grief.

With sincere sympathy,

Prof. Andrea R. Genazzani
President, International Academy of Human Reproduction (IAHR)
